Taylor Swift wouldn't be paid a penny to perform $1.5 billion Super Bowl show (2024)

The NFL is desperate to get Taylor Swift to perform the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX next year, as it could help generate a $1.5 billion windfall for the league

Taylor Swift could generate more than a $1 billion windfall for the NFL if she takes up their offer to perform in the Super Bowl halftime show - but she wouldn't be paid a penny for the performance.

It was reported that she turned down a similar chance to perform at Super Bowl LVIII, where her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his team Kansas City Chiefs eventually clinched victory over the San Francisco 49ers. However, the NFL is keen to get her on board next year.

Swift, 34, chose to watch the big game with her loved ones from an executive suite as the Chiefs won 25-22 in overtime. Swift had just come from Japan on her ongoing "Eras Tour" and preferred to enjoy the match instead of being part of the show.

However, The US Sun reports the NFL is already talking about convincing Swift to perform at the next Super Bowl in New Orleans. The performance could push up Super Bowl advertising price tags by another $1 million, taking into account that the prior adverts cost a hefty $7. 5 million.

"This year, it has been estimated that her presence helped generate a lot of money, estimated between $700-750 million. If she is the main artist of next year's halftime show, it's expected to generate more than $1.3-1.5 billion," the unnamed source told The US Sun.

However, if Swift does agree to sing at the Super Bowl halftime show, she won't get any money for it. According to league rules, performers aren't paid for performing, but the NFL covers all production costs and travel expenses.

With Kansas City aiming for a third straight Super Bowl appearance next year, alongside an attempt for the first three-peat in NFL history and a performance by Taylor Swift, the season's final showdown could be the "biggest sports event ever broadcasted in America" with more than 140 million viewers.

The Chiefs are hoping to play in New Orleans in the final game of the 2024 season, with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes looking to create new records with three consecutive NFL titles. Mahomes admitted after their recent Super Bowl win: "It would be legendary. No one's ever done it, and we knew it's legendary to win back-to-back. I think eight other teams have done it.

"We had heard it all week. We had talked to the guys [who had gone back-to-back] about it, and we felt like we had the best opportunity that we had ever had to go out there and do that. We've got to continue to play our best football. We'll celebrate these next few weeks, and then we'll get right back at it."

In another positive turn, Swift's relationship with Kelce also seems to be going from strength to strength, which would surely make the NFL's task of landing the global superstar easier. After quietly getting to know each other away from media gaze, the couple made their relationship public last September.

Since then, she has regularly attended games and thrown herself into supporting the Chiefs. She's regularly worn Chiefs merchandise and made friends with fellow wives and girlfriends, as well as making homemade Pop-Tarts for some of Kelce's teammates.
