Mediterranean Diet Store Bought Snacks We Love - The Domestic Dietitian (2024)

Sharing some of our favorite, healthy store bought snacks when you need something quick and filling while on the go.

Sharing 6 of our favorite store bought snacks and products that we use in our own house all the time. They are all made with great ingredients and fit well into the Mediterranean diet.

Sometimes Store Bought Snacks are a MUST

We love that the goal of the Mediterranean Diet & Lifestyle is to try and make more things from home in order to use fresh ingredients and control the amount of artificial ingredients/preservatives you consume. We also know firsthand that sometimes that’s just not possible. Sometimes you just have to grab something quick out of the pantry or at the store for a quick snack or meal.

Every week we share a few items we’ve been loving lately in our series – . The weekly series is designed to share our family’s actual meal plan for the week, along with products we’ve recently discovered that we’ve been enjoying.

It seems like a good idea to highlight a few all in one place in case you are on the lookout for some great prepared items or store bought snacks.

LivBar

We were mailed a sample box of these LivBar Ancient Grain and Seed Bars to try and we LOVE them! It’s an ancient grains and seed bar that is

  • organic
  • gluten free
  • vegan
  • dairy free
  • soy free
  • corn free

The bars were created by the company’s founder, Jan. Jan is a nutritionist that was having a hard time finding allergy friendly bars for her husband and multiple family members. So she created her own.

All bars are hand made in a facility that is completely solar powered. The wrapper that each bar comes in is fully compostable, making it great for long hikes and just great for the environment in general.

We tested the 5 flavor variety pack, that included the following flavors –

  • Lemongrass Cherry Matcha
  • Ginger Lemon Turmeric
  • Coffee Maple Cacao (my favorite so far!)
  • Raspberry Maca
  • Blueberry Vanilla

Where to find – looks like they are in most Sprouts stores and local health food stores around the US, they have a great store locator on their website.

One Degree Organics Sprouted Ancient Maize Flakes Cereal

My kids love cereal but most of it is loaded with tons of added sugars and less than stellar ingredients. It can be hard to find ones that have better ingredients but also taste good.

The folks at One Degree Organics have such a great business model. They are a family that believes in the connection between healthy soil, healthy plants and healthy people. They developed their company with the goal of trying to connect the gap between products in the stores and the farmers that are responsible for growing the ingredients used to make said products.

They believe in transparency, good ingredients and using clean ingredients. Many of their products only contain a handful of ingredients, rather than a long list of preservatives and additives.

This Sprouted Ancient Maize Flakes was sent to us to try and we really liked it. It makes a great bowl of cereal, but I’ve also used it on

  • baked chicken as a crispy coating
  • on top of yogurt in place of granola with some fresh fruit
  • added to trail mix for a crunchy addition

They have so many other cereal flavors and other products that I can’t wait to try.

Memore

We’ve been working with Memore since last year but honestly cannot say enough about their products. (full disclosure we work with memore and receive compensation for work completed, however we only support brands we love, trust and use ourselves)

Memore is a nutritional beverage powder that focuses on using real food ingredients that are designed to improve brain health. Their ingredient label includes sweet potato, spinach, blueberries, flaxseed, beets, turmeric and garbanzo beans.

You simply add two scoops to a glass of water or add to your favorite smoothie. Not only is it gluten free, but also completely plant based, has no added sugars and provides 10 grams of protein and 6 grams of dietary fiber.

I add it to my entire family’s smoothies…kids included. I like that it isn’t intended to be a meal supplement, just a way to make sure you are getting essential vitamins and minerals everyday for brain health.

Fix & Fogg Everything Butter

If we you follow us on social media at all, you know we’ve become obsessed with this nut and seed spread.

It’s an award winning nut and seed spread packed with hemp, chia, sesame, sunflower, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, peanuts and almonds.

We love it on toast, added to smoothies, spread on apples and celery or simply just eaten right off the spoon.

We get ours at Thrive Market, but it’s also available at Whole Foods and Sprouts.

Biena Chickpea Snacks

We stumbled across these delightfully crunchy Biena Chickpea Snacks at Whole Foods recently and we are in love!

They are so flavorful and perfect when you are craving a crunchy snack. Don’t even get us started on how we feel about beans…we think everyone should add them to more meals.

So far the Lil’ Bit of Everything and Bombay Spice are our favorite flavors. Perfect for throwing in your bag or car for a quick, filling on the go snack.

Wholly Rollies

I found these Wholly Rollies Protein Balls on a whim weeks ago at Grocery Outlet and now keep them stocked in the freezer. They make a perfect little sweet treat snack or just when I need a little burst of energy mid afternoon.

Made with simple ingredients like peanut butter, gluten free oats, dates, raisins, flax and cinnamon they are the perfect bit of sweetness while still being filling. They are gluten free, made in the USA, plant based, no salt and have no added sugars.
