There will be more on the line for the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 than the highly coveted Lombardi Trophy and extravagant championship rings.

For players on the Super Bowl 58 winning team, $164,000 of prize money can be earned. Players on the losing team will get $89,000 in prize money. Both totals represent a $7,000 increase from the per-player payouts from Super Bowl 57.

Teams also earn prize money as they advance through the playoffs. As a division winner that also played on wild-card weekend, the Chiefs can earn the maximum $338,000 if they win the Super Bowl. The 49ers, meanwhile, who didn't play on wild-card weekend due to being the NFC's No. 1 playoff seed, can earn a maximum of $333,000 if they win on Super Sunday.

NFL SALARIES: From Patrick Mahomes to Nick Bosa, who are the highest-paid players in Super Bowl 58?

2023 NFL playoff prize money breakdown for players:

  • Wild-card winner (division winner): $50,500
  • Wild-card winner (non-division winner) and teams on first-round bye: $45,500
  • Divisional playoff winner: $50,500
  • Conference championship winner: $73,000
  • Super Bowl winner: $164,000
  • Super Bowl loser: $89,000

The Chiefs earned $50,500 for their wild-card win over the Miami Dolphins, another $50,500 for the divisional playoff win over the Buffalo Bills and $73,000 for the AFC championship victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The 49ers earned $45,500 for having a bye during wild-card weekend, $50,500 for the divisional playoff win over the Green Bay Packers and $73,000 for winning the NFC championship game against the Detroit Lions.

For players such as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes – whose contract has an average annual value (according to Over The Cap) of $45 million – and 49ers pass rusher Nick Bosa – who is the highest-paid defensive player in the league – these playoff bonuses are nice, but not bank account altering deposits. However, for fringe roster players, these bonuses can be profound. As late, seventh-round selections in the 2022 NFL draft, Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (No. 251 overall) and 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (No. 262), make an average of $934,777 and $934,253 annually, respectively. Winning Super Bowl 58 would give their 2023 season income a massive boost.
